Updates on fee codes 14029, 14076 and 13706

To support interprofessional care during COVID-19, until further notice, doctors can submit 14029 for chronic disease management visits provided via telehealth by an allied care provider. The change is effective June 1, 2020 and doctors may bill 14029 retroactively. Additionally, new clarifications are now available on the appropriate use of fee codes 14076 and 13706 (the family physician-patient telephone management fee and the family physician delegated patient telehealth management fee, respectively). New billing rules for 14070 and 14071 effective January 1, 2021

Initially approved by GPSC in 2019, new rules for family physicians billing codes 14070 and 14071 take effect January 1, 2021. Changes include a new definition for Community Longitudinal Family Physician (CLFP) in the GPSC Preamble. Physicians need to ensure they meet the new rules when billing 14070 and 14071. The new rules can be found below.

Fee change for substance use care – fee code 00039

To support COVID-19 risk mitigation, temporary changes have been made to fee item 00039 (Management of Maintenance Opioid Agonist Treatment (OAT) for Opioid Use Disorder). These changes will allow physicians to bill an appropriate visit fee in addition to fee item 00039 when visits are done for substance use risk mitigation during the pandemic. The changes are effective July 23, 2020, with the end date to be determined by the Provincial Health Officer.

COVID-19 billing changes

Doctors of BC and the BC government have agreed on temporary billing changes to enable physicians to better utilize virtual care, reducing the need for people to attend physician offices in person. New, temporary fee codes have also been introduced to address added costs of treating patients with COVID-19 in physician offices.

GPSC fees change on April 1

The General Practice Services Committee (GPSC) is implementing changes to incentive fees for family doctors starting April 1, 2020 that will streamline, clarify, and improve rule consistency across fees.

Payment made: GPSC increases maternity and in-hospital fees

Eligible family doctors who provide maternity care and in-hospital care received retroactive payments on their January 15, 2020 remittance statement for the rate increases introduced by the GPSC last year. Retroactive payments are identified by adjustment code “80.”

The MSP system has been updated with the new rates since December 2019. The rate increases have been paid retroactively to April 1, 2019. The increases apply for the first hospital visit of the day (P13338) and the first 25 deliveries of the calendar year (G14004/5/8/9).
