The FPSC team-based care grants provide funding to eligible family physicians to recognize the additional costs of adding a new, interprofessional team (IPT) member to their practice.
There are two grants available to eligible clinics:
The Team-based Care Basic Grant supports physician and clinic staff time and administrative costs. Clinics may claim this grant each time an eligible IPT position is added to their practice. The TBC Basic grant can be claimed after the IPT position(s) has been filled for at least three months, and is intended to support the following activities:
- Review and implement changes to office capacity to accommodate new IPT members.
- Recruit, interview, hire, and onboard new IPT members. If applicable, recruitment may be conducted in conjunction with health authority or other employer (e.g. division or Primary Care Network (PCN)).
- Review medico-legal requirements relevant for some IPT members (e.g. may include legal/consultant fees).
The Team-based Care Clinic Expansion Grant supports the renovation or expansion of the clinic to accommodate new IPT members. The TBC Clinic Expansion Grant must be claimed after clinic renovations are completed, and the eligible IPT position(s) are filled for at least three months.
Please note that applicants to the FPSC team-based care grant may apply for conditional pre-approval prior to meeting all eligibility requirements. See ‘How to apply’ for details.
- Eligibility requirements
-
Applicants may apply for one or both grants, and must meet all the following eligibility requirements:
-
Be a family physician providing longitudinal family physician services to empaneled patients in BC.
-
Work in a clinic alongside at least one other longitudinal family physician in a primary care network (PCN) community. Family physicians working in clinics owned and operated by for-profit corporations or government organizations (e.g. health authority, municipality) are not eligible for the grant.
-
Add a net new, eligible interprofessional team member position within the last 18 months to the clinic. Eligible IPT positions must meet the following criteria:
-
Be a minimum 0.2 FTE filled for at least three months and remain filled at time of application.
-
Be practitioners in a regulated health profession in BC. Indigenous wellness roles, such as Navigators or Healers, are also eligible interprofessional team members.
-
Not be an existing, vacant IPT position filled due to staff turnover.
-
Not be a physician (including family physicians, specialist physician, or locum physicians) or nurse practitioner.
-
Note: new, eligible IPT positions may be filled by individuals employed either by the applying clinic or by external organizations (e.g., health authority).
For TBC Clinic Expansion Grant only: renovations must be completed before the grant is claimed. Applicants will be eligible for a varied funding amount based on the number of IPT positions added, the number of rooms added, and actual costs incurred during construction.
If you are unsure if the new IPT position in your clinic meets the eligibility requirements for this grant, please contact fp.billing@doctorsofbc.ca.

- Grant amount & payment details
-
The FPSC team-based care grants will be paid as a single lump sum to the family physician applying on behalf of the participating physicians in the clinic. The grants will be directed to the bank account that is linked to receive sessional payments on the applicant’s Doctors of BC account.
The FPSC team-based care grants are paid by FPSC under the following conditions:
- The grant will be paid to an individual family physician accepting payment on behalf of all physicians in the clinic.
- The grant is intended to be shared with the participating physicians within the clinic. Physicians and clinic owners are responsible for determining how the grant will be distributed.
After submitting the online application form, eligible applicants will be contacted by email with instructions for submitting their invoices.
TBC Basic Grant
Eligible clinics may claim $15,000 per total net new FTE filled (minimum 0.2 FTE required).

Note: the total FTE may be the result of one new eligible IPT position or multiple added to the clinic.

The TBC Clinic Expansion Grant cannot be used to support capital costs (e.g., furniture, clinical equipment, IT infrastructure, EMR set-up and/or migration, etc.) or the construction of a new clinic.
Eligible applicants are paid a flat grant amount, determined by the $2,000 range in which their actual construction costs fall. The payable amount equals the bottom end of the range. Clinic Expansion Grant eligibility requirements and payment examples are described below:

- How to apply
-
Applications to the Team-based care grants are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year by applying on the Doctors of BC website, with a login. Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria may apply for one or both grants.
Applying for pre-approval
Applicants may seek pre-approval for the team-based care grants before proceeding with the recruitment, hiring and clinic expansion/renovation process (if applicable). Conditional pre-approval may be granted under the following circumstances, if all other eligibility requirements are met:
- Before the eligible IPT position has been filled for three months.
- Before the clinic expansion or renovation has started.
Pre-approved applicants can expect to receive an email confirming their pre-approval upon submitting the application form. Please note that it is the responsibility of pre-approved applicants to inform FPSC when all eligibility requirements for the grant have been met by emailing fp.billing@doctorsofbc.ca.
To receive payment, applicants must contact fp.billing@doctorsofbc.ca to inform FPSC when all eligibility requirements for the grant(s) have been met (i.e., eligible IPT position has been filled for a minimum of three months, and if applicable, clinic renovations/expansion have been completed).
