Team-based care supports for family doctors

Team-based care offers many benefits for family doctors throughout BC. Having access to other health care providers to help with patient care can free up doctors to the work they love to do, including to focus on medical diagnoses and patient relationships, while ensuring patients get timely access to continuous, coordinated primary care.

The AGM will begin at 4:30 p.m. in Jack Poole Hall, with onsite registration available from 3:15 p.m. onwards, for members in good standing.

Building community health care from the ground up

The Gabriola Community Health Centre is a true success story of a community coming together to wrap care around local patients. Gabriola Islanders banded together to identify gaps in care, build new clinic space to house doctors and other health care services, and then staff the clinic with a team of health care professionals who work together to ensure that Gabriolans have seamless access to primary and secondary care without needing to leave the island.

Providing care for vulnerable populations with complex cases including mental health issues is at the heart of Dr Lawrence Yang’s practice. While drawn to this kind of practice, Dr Yang was burning out by carrying the pressures of other people’s emotions. He knew he needed help managing his own anxiety, and he first turned to the GPSC’s Practice Support Program (PSP). Through PSP services and supports, Dr Yang was connected to hundreds of colleagues across the province.
