The GPSC welcomes Dr Sari Cooper as a Doctors of BC representative, replacing Dr Khati Hendry. The committee thanks Dr Hendry for her thoughtful and strategic support to the committee and work over the past few years.

Three new Ministry-appointed GPSC members

The Ministry of Health has announced a change in its membership on the General Practice Services Committee (GPSC). The change brings broader membership that will help to better position the committee in a strategic leadership role for Primary Care Networks and team-based care, in addition to supporting the ongoing priority of supporting physicians in the adoption of the patient medical home attributes.

New PSP compensation policy better recognizes doctors and practice teams

PSP understands family doctors and team members invest significant time in ensuring that practices run as smoothly and efficiently as possible.

Family practice teams are expanding, and family physicians and other team members are increasingly focused on quality improvement (QI) activities. In recognition of this, PSP has updated how it compensates family physicians and team members for these activities.*

Changes to PSP’s compensation policy are based on feedback from family physicians and are effective June 15, 2019

GPSC increases maternity and in-hospital fees

Eligible family doctors who provide maternity care and in-hospital care received retroactive payments on their January 15, 2020 remittance statement for the rate increases introduced by the GPSC last year. Retroactive payments are identified by adjustment code “80.” The MSP system has been updated with the new rates since December 2019. The rate increases have been paid retroactively to April 1, 2019.

Webinar series: learn more about billing GPSC fees

Family doctors are invited to join a four-part webinar series about billing GPSC fees to:

  • Increase confidence when billing GPSC incentives.
  • Better support appropriate billing.
  • Improve understanding about fee rules.
  • Not miss billing for additional services.

Based on physician feedback, the GPSC and SGP are expanding their series from new-to-practice to all family doctors and their MOAs. The webinars were first presented to new-to-practice GPs in winter 2018 and spring 2019.

New Clinic IT Support Community Initiative

Doctors Technology Office (DTO) has launched the Clinic IT Support Community Initiative in response to physician requests for increased support with their IT needs.

The community holds monthly learning sessions and facilitates knowledge sharing for IT vendors.

The sessions will highlight access to online resources materials and members will be provided with a quarterly newsletter. Read more.
