Supporting family physicians in providing maternity care services to women in their communities has been a GP Services Committee (GPSC) priority since the committee’s inception. Over the years, the GPSC has supported family physicians in providing this vital service through its funding of the GP obstetric delivery incentive fees, the maternity care network fee, and the Maternity Care for BC program which makes training available to GPs wanting to update their maternity skills.

Doctors can now contact the Doctors Technology Office (DTO) for centralized technical support including support for complex IT technical issues such as:

Timely resolutions of clinic issues that affect EMR /network operations.

Due to staffing changes, as of November 30, 2015, physicians with GPSC billing enquiries should contact GPSC Billing or Health Insurance BC at 604 456 6950 (Vancouver) or 866 456 6950 (rest of BC).

Between July and September 30, 2015, hundreds of GPs from across BC shared their ideas about the future of primary care as part of the GPSC’s visioning engagement process.

At the end of July, the GPSC sent out updated information about the GPSC fee codes. In particular, there were some changes to the documentation requirements for billing these fees. For example, you must now record and submit start and end times for the MH planning fee, which has always required a minimum of 30 minutes.

This information prompted concerns among some physicians, who felt the changes to some of documentation requirements increased their administrative burden.

The GPSC is making key changes to its incentive fee codes, including some of the codes for A GP for Me.

These adjustments seek to bring clarity, alignment, and coordination to the GPSC incentives.  These developments support upcoming GPSC strategies that will further aid appropriate billing of the incentive codes.

The GPSC recognizes the pressure on divisional infrastructure and A GP for Me budgets due to the 5.8% increase in sessional fees made effective April 1, 2015. At its April meeting, the committee agreed to provide divisions an increase in these budgets for the 2015/16 fiscal year to cover the difference in fees. Details of this support are covered below.
