The GPSC congratulates Dr Bob Burns on his retirement later this month. Dr Burns has served on the GPSC committee for nearly four years as a representative for the Vancouver Island Health Authority. The committee thanks Dr Burns for his contributions at the monthly GPSC meetings and at the Evaluations subcommittee. Dr Burns’ passion for high-quality and well-integrated primary care will be missed. Best wishes, Dr Burns!
Congratulations to Dr Fiona Duncan for being recognized as a family physician promoting positive change for patients, the health care system, and the profession in the Doctors of BC 2016 Annual Report. Dr Duncan is representing family medicine provincially through the A GP for Me Working Group. She is also a Vancouver Division of Family Practice board member, a GPSC member, and a family physician.
In February, physicians and health care providers gathered for the first-ever Joint Collaborative Committees (JCCs) Showcase. The event was part of the annual BC Patient Safety & Quality Council Forum. A number of local divisions of family practice showcased their work and shared stories with about 400 attendees. Twenty-three representatives, including 14 physician members, from 11 local divisions were involved in the presentations, which included topics such as:
Last summer and early fall, the GPSC invited family doctors in BC to speak up about how they want to practice and care for their patients in the future. More than 30% of family doctors participated in our province-wide engagement process to help create a GP vision for the future of primary care.
The Doctors Technology Office (DTO) supports BC physicians with their in-practice technology needs. Physicians can receive advocacy support and guidance around use of technology in their practices, with a primary focus on Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
