LFP Payment Model a "game changer" for family physician

Apr 8, 2024

Dr Leo Dai’s workday doesn’t end when his Burnaby clinic closes.

The family physician works late into the night poring over lab reports and updating charts for his 2,000 patients. It has been that way for the past decade because a full panel means he has no choice.

But thanks to the Longitudinal Family Physician (LFP) Payment Model, Dr Dai now has more help. Since the LFP came into effect in February 2023, Dr Dai has recruited five full-time equivalents of family doctors to his clinic.

Mar 28, 2024

As of April 1, 2024, there will be a JCC rate increase of 3% for family physicians and specialist physicians who participate in quality and system improvement activities on behalf of the JCCs. In late March we were advised by the Health Employers Association of BC (HEABC) of the Physician Master Agreement (PMA) cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) increase for this year, hence the late notice for the increase to rates for April 1st.

Holiday message from FPSC

Dec 20, 2023

As we approach the end of 2023, we’d like to thank you for your dedication and your contributions to patients, families, and community. We appreciate all of the hard work that you’re doing in your communities across BC for family practice and for patients in primary care.

Over the past year, we’ve seen major transformations in primary care. We know there isn’t one solution to all of the challenges in family practice now, and that’s why Doctors of BC and the Ministry of Health continue to work together on many fronts to improve primary care. These are all pieces of the puzzle.

A pilot program that provides after hours care for attached patients of family physicians and nurse practitioners in the Langley, South Island, South Okanagan Similkameen, Thompson Region, and Victoria Divisions of Family Practice is already showing results.

The six-month pilot, a partnership between the Family Practice Services Committee (FPSC) and HealthLink BC and five divisions of family practice, was developed to reduce the challenges that family physicians face in providing patients with care outside regular office hours.

Team-based care revolutionizes health care in Langley

A revolutionary approach to health care is gaining recognition at the Murrayville Family Practice Group in Langley.

A collaborative team of eight family physicians, three nurse practitioners, three registered nurses, and a clinical pharmacist works cohesively to offer timely and comprehensive medical services for the group, which has offices in Murrayville and Willoughby.

Colin Fee, a clinical pharmacist with four years of experience at the practice, plays a crucial role on the team.
